By combining zinc alloy coatings with high-performance paint coating systems, offshore wind farm operators can protect their most valuable assets from corrosion for longer. Thanks to this duplex coating technique, after 25 punishing years in the North Sea the world’s first offshore wind farm at Vindeby was finally dismantled in 2017. Its towers showed next to no weather corrosion damage. Martin van Leeuwen of the International Zinc Association explains why.
